This is a gas tank skid plate DIY weld-together kit for the 3rd generation (1996-2002) Toyota 4Runner. The 3rd gen 4runner has a notouriously vulnerable gas tank that hangs down low in front of the rear axle. After enough off road use, it's normal to see reduced fuel capacity and a gas gauge that no longer functions properly or at all. Not to mention the driveshaft interference issue where the driveshaft attempts to rip the skid plate off on trucks with 3" of lift. This skid plate solves all of these issues. The 3/16" steel or optional 1/4" aluminum construction makes this skid plate nearly indestructible while the inner profile has been shaped to provide maximum driveshaft clearance. Additionally, all of the mounting holes are slotted, allowing the skid plate to be installed and then slid as far away from the driveshaft as possible to further increase clearance.

Heavy duty 3/16" plate steel construction for maximum offroad strength and durability

Purchased a high clearance bumper kit for my son’s 2nd generation Tacoma. He had almost zero welding experience and thought this would be a great crash course. I am pleased to say I was right. The bumper came out great. The precision of the cuts made tacking it a piece of cake and all the external seam welds get ground smooth anyway, so it was a great place to work on his technique. I highly recommend this project for a great bumper as well as a great learning experience.

Fantastic bumper, even for a novice welder. I really liked how all the pieces just fit together, and the locating tabs were also a big help. The one improvement I would make is to allow a little more room to access the inside of the bumper, or at least slightly larger access holes. Getting the license plate mounted was impossible for me, and the winch mount bolts were difficult. Aside from that, I love it!

The small shop that can AND DOES!!! A project type that always has challenges and no surprise I did. Bandon and the Coastal Offroad team were extremely supportive, service was excellent & responsive, and the product after several off-road excursions and a 10,000 km touring lap from Alberta down the entire Pacific Coast Hwy to Baja Mexico in the fall confirmed the bumpers performed to expectation!
